Helen Gail Shult , 83, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 4:44 p.m. Thursday, August 12, 2021 in Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church in Shelbyville and mailed to Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, 415 North Broadway, Shelbyville, IL.  Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL.

Helen was born August 4, 1938 in East St. Louis, IL, to Ewing Baxter Wiley, Jr. and LaVon H. (Black) Wiley.  She graduated from Roxana High School in 1956. She went on to Registered Nurse Training at St. Luke’s Hospital in St. Louis, MO, and graduated in 1959.

She married Ronald Charles Shult on October 11, 1959. She worked at the Marion VA Hospital while Ron completed his Bachelor of Science Degree in Manual Arts Therapy and Industrial Technology at Carbondale, IL. She then accompanied her husband throughout his U.S. Army enlistment. Their son, Ronald Jr., was born at the Presidio Military Hospital in San Francisco, CA. They lived in Arcola and Noble, IL. Her interests were family, cooking, antiquing, riding her bike, traveling, and taking cruises with her husband. Helen worked for Shelby Memorial Hospital for 25 years and for Shelby Home Health as a school nurse for the Kindergarten, Junior High, and High School for 15 years.

Helen was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Shelbyville and United Presbyterian Woman’s Association.

She and Ron were married for 61 years and he was the love of her life.

Helen is survived by her husband, Ron; son, Ronald Charles Shult, Jr. of Homer, IL; granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Shult of Urbana, IL; brother, Charles Baxter Wiley and wife Jane of Plano, TX; nephew, Eric Wiley and wife Lauren of McKinney, TX; and niece, Jennifer King and husband Paul of Falls Church, VA.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
