Helen K Butler

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2014 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First Christian Church, Shelbyville, IL.
Helen was born on June 20, 1920 in Arthur, IL, the daughter of Leonard and Ersie Tipton Kirkwood. Helen was a kindergarten teacher at Main Street School in Shelbyville, IL for many years. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Shelbyville, the Shelby County Retired Teachers, and the Illinois Education Association. She married Elza Kingswood Butler on February 24, 1940 in St. Charles, MO. He died on July 13, 1997.
She is survived by her daughters, Connie Boyd (Alvin) of Argenta, IL, Cheryl Boss (Bill) of Decatur, IL, and Cathy Donnel (David) of Florida.
She also leaves seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elza; one daughter, Gayle Shepherd; two children in infancy; three brothers, Donald Kirkwood, Keith Kirkwood, and Hugh Kirkwood; and three sisters-in-law, Louise Kirkwood, Betty Kirkwood, and Elinor Kirkwood.
