Helen M. Childress, 74, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 6:34 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2019 in Shelbyville Manor, Shelbyville, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2019 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Linda Trent officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Swedish Lutheran Cemetery, Stewardson, IL. Memorials may be given to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.

Helen was born on November 2, 1944 in Stewardson, IL, the daughter of Omer W. and Marie M. (Hill) Ballinger. She graduated from Stewardson – Strasburg High School in the Class of 1962. Helen married Roy L. Childress on August 11, 1962. She was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church near Shelbyville, IL. She was very active in her church and community including United Methodist Women, Rose Home Extension Unit, Ladies Domino Group, and volunteering for several organizations including Shelby Memorial Hospital. Helen dedicated her life to God and her beloved family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Roy; three daughters, Becky (Nick) Pruemer of Shelbyville, IL, Patty (Dale) Koontz of Choctaw, OK and Sally O’Brien of Bethany, IL; brother, Bill (Betty) Ballinger of Mattoon, IL; sister, Judy (Larry) Verdeyen of Stewardson, IL; grandchildren, Brittany (Phillip) Kaufman, Trevor Pruemer, Erica (Frank) Baker, Kaylee Koontz, Stacy (Angie) Prosser, Jr. and C. J. O’Brien; and great grandchildren, Addison, Caroline and Emmett Kaufman and Malaki Baker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gary Ballinger, father-in-law, Nelson Childress; mother-in-law, Alvena Childress, and brothers-in-law, Carl Childress, Don Price and Don Jones.
