Helen S Prosser

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 29, 2008 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, 415 N. Broadway, Shelbyville with Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. Visitation from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville.
Helen was born on August 8, 1918 in Findlay, Illinois, the daughter of Fred and Nellie Harbert Stewardson. She married Thomas Weakly on October 8, 1944, and he was killed in WW II combat over Japan on May 26, 1945.
She married Newton H. Prosser, in Taylorville, Illinois, on December 27, 1947. He preceded her in death on January 4, 1995.
She is survived by her only child, Teri Jo Lynch and husband Jim of Findlay; three grandchildren, Toby (Stacia) Lynch of Shelbyville, Tony Lynch of Houston, TX and Jamie (Justin) Davis of Decatur; and three great grandchildren, Chase Jackson and Sophia Lynch of Shelbyville and Gavyn Davis of Decatur. She also leaves her dear sister, Nancy Messmore and husband Bill, and two special nieces, Julie Bernstein and family and Jane Messmore all of Findlay.
She is also survived by her sister-in-law and good friend, Betty Prosser of Shelbyville.
Helen grew up north of Findlay near St. Mary�s church and attended Foster school as a child. She graduated from Findlay High School in 1936 and in 1937 graduated from Spark�s business school as a secretarial accountant. Helen helped open the first office of the Shelby Electric Co-op in 1938 and stayed until 1951. She later returned to the Co-op and worked from 1968-1980.
She was a long time member of the First Christian Church in Shelbyville. She was a member of the former sorority, Theta Pi Gamma and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Helen and her husband Newt were fortunate to be able to travel south to Texas or Florida several winters after their retirement. She recently retuned from a trip to Houston to see her grandson.
She was able to enjoy a wonderful Christmas holiday with her family and slipped away in her sleep to pass into the presence of her Lord and rejoin family members that have gone before. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Harold Stewardson.
Perhaps most importantly, she is survived by her best friend and constant companion of 11 years, her much loved poodle, P.J.
Memorials in her honor may be made to the First Christian Church of Shelbyville.
