Henry Francis Gatton, Sr. , 79, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 12:15 p.m. Sunday, September 3, 2023 in his residence.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 7, 2023 in Glenwood Cemetery, Section B, Shelbyville, IL with Gary Crowder officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Casual attire is requested. Memorials may be given to the General Dacey Trail or Saving Orphaned Animals.

Henry was born on September 11, 1943 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Lester James and Norma Velma (Stockdale) Gatton. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1961. Henry married Nancy Sue Bly on May 27, 1962 and they were married for 61 years. Henry worked as a serviceman for Sears for 24 years. He later worked at International Paper in Shelbyville for 20 years. Henry was baptized at Robinson Creek Church near Shelbyville, IL. He enjoyed walking, mowing, and gardening.

Henry is survived by his wife, Nancy; sons, Henry F. Gatton, Jr. and wife Kay of Shelbyville, IL, and Wesley E. Gatton and wife Jennifer of Shelbyville, IL; grandchildren, Henry F. Gatton III (Cyndi), Dalton Gatton (Ashley), Brandon Gatton (Sarah), Jacob Gatton (Shawna), and Michael Gatton; great grandchildren, Dylan Carter, Zayne Gatton, Taetym Gatton, Kayson Gatton, Olivia Gatton, Alexa Gatton, and Braiden Gatton; step-great grandchildren, Brittany Linn, Keenan Gordon, and Keaton Gordon; siblings, Betty Garner of Monrovia, MD, James Gatton of Mattoon, IL, David Gatton of Chatham, IL, and Norma Padgett of Assumption, IL; step-siblings, Pat Giles (John) of Beecher City, IL and Alf Allen of Shelbyville, IL; and sisters-in-law, Violet Tripp and Rosemary Bly, both of Shelbyville, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Erma Gatton; brothers-in-law, Larry Garner, Kenny Padgett, Lawrence Bly, Jr., Ralph Bly, Robert Bly, and great grandson, Payton Gatton.
