Herbert P Campbell

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2015 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Greg Breeden officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday and one hour before services on Saturday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to First Church of the Nazarene, Shriners Hospital for Children or Saving Orphaned Animals.
Herb was born on May 14, 1933 in Tower Hill, IL, the son of William Floyd and Ethel Mae McConnell Campbell. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1951. Herb began working for the Mueller Corporation in Decatur, IL. He then entered the U. S. Air Force in February 1953 and served until June 1974, retiring with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He married Phyllis E. Shuff on June 4, 1953. Herb, Phyllis and their three sons moved back to Shelbyville in 1974. He then worked for Shelby Co. State Bank, Findlay State Bank and First Trust Bank, retiring again in 1995. Herb was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Jackson Masonic Lodge #53, Shelby County Shrine Club, Roy Vanderpool American Legion Post #81, VFW Post #4829 and Shelby County Honor Guard all of Shelbyville, IL. He enjoyed volunteering at Shelby County Community Services, transporting veterans to the VA hospital and visiting at the local nursing homes. He was an avid softball and racquetball player, placing 2nd in the Doubles Division of the European Racquetball League. Herb was a St. Louis Cardinals fan and was very fond of his dogs.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; sons, Kelly Campbell of Shelbyville, IL, Kirk Campbell and wife Peggy of Oconee, IL and Kerry Campbell of Shelbyville, IL; two step-grandchildren, Jake Reed and wife Dawn and Levi Reed and wife Brandy all of Oconee, IL; four step-great grandchildren, Jordyn, Olivia, Isabelle and Addle Reed all of Oconee, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Bill Stucker; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Lenore Shuff; sister, Mae Beem and her husband Kenneth “Snap”; and brothers, Richard “Dick” Campbell and his wife Charlene and Raymond “Buck” Campbell and his wife Viola.
