Imogene Barger

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2014 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Mark Sanders officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the Kidney Foundation, Shelby Rescue Squad or Donor’s Choice.

Imogene was born on July 26, 1918, in Lakewood, IL, the third daughter to Guy and Nita (Leach) Cutler. She married Jack Barger on January 12, 1939 in St. Charles, MO, who preceded her in death on September 6, 1976.

Imogene and Jack lived for many years in Decatur and Mt. Zion, IL, prior to moving to Shelbyville in 1966 to be near her family. While in Mt. Zion, Imogene was very active as a member of the Presbyterian Church and served as Deaconess. She worked as a head cook in the Mt. Zion Schools, and after moving to Shelbyville, loved working for many years at her brother Bunny’s grocery store, and then at Shelby Memorial Hospital prior to her retirement. She was a member of the V.F.W. Women’s Auxiliary and enjoyed beging active at many of their events.

She is survived by her sons, Willard “Will” Barger and wife Nancy of Macon, IL and Gregory Barger of Shelbyville, IL; sisters, Wilna Moore of Shelbyville, IL, Shirley Everett and husband Jim of Shelbyville, IL, Melba Mathias of West Virginia, and Patsy Trelz of Sparta, TN; sisters-in-law, Bernice Cutler and Marie Cutler both of Shelbyville, IL; three grandchildren; six great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceding her in death were her husband; parents; two brothers, Bunny Cutler and Clayson Cutler; five sisters, Waynoka Hott, Guyula Jones, Beverly Kingston, Pauline Phelps, and Marie Cutler.
