Irene Dagen, 81, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 12:30 a.m. Friday, November 10, 2017 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 13, 2017 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Linda Trent officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the Fourth Street United Methodist Church, Shelbyville, IL or the American Cancer Society.

Irene was born on September 27, 1936 near Moweaqua, IL, the daughter of Coleman Edward and Ruth Jane Elizabeth (Gordon) Gustin. She was a graduate of Shelbyville High School. Irene was a homemaker and also worked for the ASCS office, Kull’s Greenhouse and most recently in the greenhouses at Shelby County Community Services all in Shelbyville. Irene was a member of the Fourth Street United Methodist Church and a former member of the First United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women’s Organization. She cooked for the Shelbyville Kiwanis Club and along with her husband, Carl, participated as a host family for the Kiwanis Club’s Foreign Student Exchange Program at Chanute. Irene enjoyed cooking for her family, helping with her children’s activities and volunteering her time in the community. She married Carl Martz Dagen on December 27, 1953. He died on November 13, 1999.

She is survived by her children, Vickie Lynn Craig and fiancé Don Schultz of Gibson City, IL, David Stewart Dagen and wife Martha of Brentwood, TN and Sebastian Tapia and wife Doe of Guntersville, AL; sister, Betty Rodman and husband Melvin of Shelbyville, IL; companion, Donald Vance of Shelbyville, IL; five grandchildren, Brooke Zander and husband Eric, Brittany Buck and husband Rob, Andrew Dagen and wife Sarah, Adrienne Dagen and Adam Dagen; four great grandchildren, Cole, Kylie and Carter Harkins and Hayden Buck; nephew, Terry Rodman and wife Daphne; and niece, Lou Ann Brunken.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Carl.
