Irene Runner
(February 17, 1925 – August 22, 2009)

Stella “Irene” Runner, 84, of Shelbyville, died at 12:20 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2009 in her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 25, 2009 in the Free Methodist Church in Shelbyville with Rev. Ron Tucker officiating. Visitation from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Monday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to the Free Methodist Church in Shelbyville, Lincolnland Hospice or Shelby County Relay for Life.

Mrs. Runner was born on February 17, 1925 in Janesville, Illinois, the second of ten children born to Daniel V. and Lula Mae Seeley Marshall. Irene worked for Jon’s Department Store and the Ben Franklin Store both in Shelbyville for several years. She was a very active member of the Free Methodist Church in Shelbyville. Her hobbies included, sewing, crafts, crossword puzzles, shopping with Doris Hanson and lunching with Lois Dilley. She married Alfred E. Runner on November 22, 1946. To this union three children were born, Keith, Jean and Kathy.

Surviving are her brother, John Marshall of Smithton, MO; sister, Martha Ann Church of Sedalia, MO; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Stevens) Stonum and husband James of Altamont and Sarah (Enoch) Potts and husband Matthew, Heidi Enoch and Joshua Enoch all of Granite City, IL; three great grandchildren, Madalon Stonum, Zane Potts and Lillian Potts; two sons-in-law, Gayle Stevens of Shelbyville and Paul Enoch of Virden; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Al Runner on April 2, 1997; infant son, Keith Runner; daughters, Jean Stevens and Kathy Enoch; granddaughter, Michelle Stevens; three brothers; four sisters, locally including Grace Brown, Dorothy Stewart and Gertie Trigg; half-sister; and several nieces and nephews.
