A memorial graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2015 in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL, with Rev. Don Jeffries officiating. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the Memorial Sunken Garden in Forest Park, Shelbyville, IL.
Mrs. Atkinson was born on November 7, 1922 in Shelbyville, IL, the daughter of Luther and Bertha Spracklin Phelps. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1940. Irma worked for a short while at Jon’s Department Store in Shelbyville, IL. She married Jack Atkinson on June 13, 1942. Irma was a homemaker and loved being with her family. She also enjoyed taking pictures of the beauty of nature and going to the Dairy Queen with her friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Becky Leverenz (Jim) of New Port Richey, FL, Pam Donnel (Gary) of Shelbyville, IL and Debbie Kyle (Steve) of Shelbyville, IL; daughter-in-law, Judy Atkinson of Shelbyville, IL; brother, Adrian Phelps (Owen) of Mattoon, IL; sisters-in-law, Ruby Phelps and Barbara Phelps both of Shelbyville, IL; seven grandchildren, Neka Atkinson, Zachary Atkinson, Dustin Gray, Ashley Adams, Chad Donnel (Dena), Jerame Arthur (Shonnie), and Avery Arthur; six great grandchildren, Brennon Atkinson, Kyla Brown, Alexis Adams, Abby Donnel, Ashley Donnel and Jack Arthur; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack Atkinson on September 10, 1997; son, Dennis Atkinson; brothers, Cecil, Gene, Herb, Charles and Dale Phelps; and sister, Betty Stephens.
