Ivy Dowler

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 3, 2007, in Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, with her grandson David Largent officiating. Visitation from 5:30-8:00 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to Imboden Creek Gardens Assisted Living for a memorial tree.
Mrs. Dowler was born on June 8, 1905 in Osage County, Missouri, the daughter of Thomas Jefferson and Martha Ellen Baker Hassler. She was the last living member of the family of eight children. She married Ervin S. Dowler on January 16, 1924 in Bland, Missouri. They moved to St. Louis and in 1948 moved to Shelbyville, Illinois and established Dowler Farm Equipment Company. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Shelbyville, serving her Lord and Master for many years in youth ministry, vacation bible school, Sunday school and Good News Club. Ivy resided at Imboden Creek Gardens for two and a half years, where she was active in activities such as Bible Club, Golden Bells Bell Choir and many volunteer community events.
Surviving are her son, Eugene J. (Eileen) Dowler of Hillsboro, MO; daughters, Delores (Elwood) Crutcher and Shirley (Jim) Tate all of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Carol J. (Melvin) McGlaughlin of Hillsboro, MO, Tom (Valerie) Gaddis, Susan Stephens, Terry (Mitzie) Gaddis all of Shelbyville, Tim Gaddis of Decatur, Gary (Lori) Largent of Fenton, MO, Gini (David) Smith of Decatur, David (Cindy) Largent of Midlothian, TX, Diane (Mike) Winterboer of Lebanon, OR; 13 great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ervin on April 9, 1987; four brothers; three sisters; sons-in-law, Lowell Gaddis and Robert Largent; and one great grandson, Ryan Gaddis.
Her biggest joy was to have her family all together for visits. “Rest in peace, thou good and faithful servant.”
