Jack E Schurman
(June 12, 1939 – September 13, 2020)
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2020 in the First Church of the Nazarene in Shelbyville, IL, with Rev. Jared Bouton and Rev. Greg Breeden officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2020 at Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. All who are attending are expected to wear a face mask and practice safe social distancing. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, near Shelbyville, IL with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard.
Jack was born on June 12, 1939 in Hawarden, IA, the son of Edward and Helen (White) Schurman. Jack was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served on the U.S.S. Gurke and was the recipient of the Purple Heart Award. He worked as a residential assistant for the disabled for many years. Jack was awarded the Silver Beaver for his leadership in the Boy Scouts of America and was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Shelbyville, IL. Jack married Nancy E. Cranford on November 27, 1976 and she preceded him in death on April 22, 2016.
Jack is survived by his daughters, Kelli Ann Hannah (Crystal) of Bay St. Louis, MS, and Kim Marie Menard (Tony) of Morton Grove, IL; seven grandchildren, Jordan Hannah, Merzede Hannah, Keegan Hannah, James “Trace” Guyer, Charlotte Menard, Helen Menard, and Katlyn Smith; brothers, Ted Schurman (Jan) of Rapid City, SD and Jimmy Schurman (Kathy) of Hawarden, IA; eight nieces and nephews, Debbie, Rusty, Bobby, Ryan, Evan, Karie, Mike and Jeff; 17 great nieces and nephews; and 3 great great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nancy; sisters, Betty Ann Danielson and Barbara Kay Schurman in infancy; granddaughter, Bella Hannah; great niece, Hannah Schurman; and great nephew, Erik Johnson.
