James Edgar “Jim” Salmons
, 82, of Tower Hill, IL, passed away at 5:40 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2024 at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Gene Colthurst officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Robinson Creek Cemetery, near Shelbyville, IL with military rites by the Pana Veterans Honor Guard.
Jim was born on February 10, 1942 in Pana, IL, the son of Edgar and Eva Clark Salmons. He graduated from Tower Hill High School in the Class of 1961. Following high school, Jim served in the United States Air Force from 1961-1967, and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan and Amarillo, TX. He married Rosalyn Wooten on November 26, 1961, and they were married for 62 years. Jim worked as a machinist at Caterpillar in Decatur until the time of his retirement. He loved fishing, camping, and telling jokes. He was a member of Herrick United Methodist Church, Shelbyville Lion’s Club, Tower Hill Volunteer Fire Department serving as chief for 10 years, and the former Tower Hill United Methodist Church.
Jim is survived by his wife Rosalyn; three daughters, Carolyn Fry (Kevin) of Tower Hill, IL, Cynthia Salmons of Tower Hill, IL, and Catherine Brown (Roy) of Tower Hill, IL; three grandchildren, Zachary Fry (Beth), Elias Fry (Robyn) and Crysta Fry; and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Louise Marie Rodgers (Elmer).
