James Michael “Jim” Perry , 73, of Findlay, IL, passed away at 1:55 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2023 in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2023 in Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL, with Pastor Mike Reynolds officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, June 9, 2023 and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service, both in the funeral home. Burial will be in Findlay Cemetery, Findlay, IL with military rites by Clarence Bixler American Legion Post #409.

Jim was born on July 12, 1949 in Decatur, IL, the son of Raymond Russell and Rita Rose (Matheson) Perry. He graduated from Findlay High School in the Class of 1969. Jim served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era. In the 1970s, Jim began working as an independent truck driver hauling livestock, he then drove for H.O. Dick Transfer Co. in Bethany, Naber Grain Corporation and retired in 2019 from Day Trucking in Bement, IL. He was a member of the Clarence Bixler American Legion Post #409 in Findlay, IL, and served on the Piatt County Fair Board, where he was livestock superintendent for 28 years.

Jim is survived by his sons, Ed Perry (Beth) of Shelbyville, IL, and Corey Perry (Emily) of Tower Hill, IL; daughter, Jamie Perry (Harvey Allen) of Mattoon, IL; sister, Vicki May (Mike) of Shelbyville, IL; half-sister, Marla Weirather (Darin) of Carthage, IL: six grandchildren, Mackenzie Marts (Gage), Collin Perry, Richard Long, Anna Perry, Caden Perry, and Corbin Perry; and one great granddaughter, Zadie Perry.

He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Perry; mother, Rita Rose Prosser (Ray); maternal grandparents, Jim and Lucille Matheson; and paternal grandparents, Russell and Dora Perry.

Jim’s family would like to thank the Staff at St. John’s Hospital and his very good friend, Mary, for their exceptional care.
