James R Stevenson

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, May 6, 2013 in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Visitation will be from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Monday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to SIU Pediatrics’ Camp COCO (Children’s Oncology Camp Organization), 927 N. Rutledge St., Springfield, IL 62797.
Mr. Stevenson was born on August 16, 1929 in Holliday, IL, the son of Ralph L. and Elva B. Riley Stevenson. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1947 and attended Olivet Nazarene College. Jim worked for 20 years on IBM machines in Phoenix, AZ and later was a bookkeeper for Ferguson Truck Lines in Houston, TX. He moved back to Shelbyville in 1979 and worked for Johnston’s IGA, retiring in 1992. Jim was a Charter Member of the Sons of the American Legion Squad #81 in Shelbyville, serving as Commander, Adjutant and Finance Officer. He married Mary Humphrey Auburn on October 11, 1988.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; son, Charles Richard “Rick” Stevenson and wife Debbie of Alta Loma, CA; step-sons, Richard “Richie” Auburn of Decatur and Gary Auburn and wife Penny of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Geoffrey Stevenson and Jeannie Anderson; step-grandchildren, Tina Auburn, Andee Auburn, Wendie Brush, Steve Auburn, Stephanie Auburn, David Auburn, Richie Auburn and Justin Schultz; two great grandsons, Cameron and Malcolm Anderson; and several step-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-son, Dino Auburn in 2001; and sister, Ruby Musson.
