Jay M Mabry

A service to celebrate Jay’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 3, 2012 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Children’s Cochlear Implant Project/University of Iowa Foundation, PO Box 4550, Iowa City, IA 52244.
Jay was born on June 20, 1948 in Vandalia, IL, the son of Jay Max and Gwendolyn E. Mabry. He owned and operated the Redwood Restaurant in Decatur, Illinois and was involved with the PITS Water-ski Club in Harristown, IL for many years. Jay enjoyed water-skiing, swimming, running, biking and competing in triathlons. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. Jay was a volunteer grant writer for the Norfork Fire Department in Norfork, AR. He married Sharon D. Doubleday on July 3, 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; sons, Jay Max Mabry and Kevin Walton Mabry both of Schaumburg, IL; step-son, Kyle Bernier and wife Michelle of Penacook, NH; step-daughter, Kari Demeroto and husband Victor of Boscawen, NH; mother, Gwen Dearth of Shelbyville, IL; sister, Shelley Koehler and husband Ron of Shelbyville, IL; and seven grandchildren, Max and Simon Mabry both of Schaumburg, IL, Owen and Quinlan Bernier both of Penacook, NH, Gabriel and Sophia Demeroto both of Boscawen, NH and Jillian Clifton of Little Rock, AR.
Jay was preceded in death by his father, Jay Max Mabry; and step-father, Bill Dearth.
