Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 22, 2016 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church of Shelbyville, IL or donor’s choice.

Jeff was born on October 6, 1954 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Lawrence Ray and Delores Olin (Wallace) Gordon. He was a graduate of Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1972 and earned his Associate Degree from Lake Land College in Mattoon, IL. He was a lifelong resident of Shelbyville. Jeff worked in the warehouse of International Paper in Shelbyville, IL for many years. He previously worked for World Color Press in Effingham, IL and Blaw-Knox in Mattoon, IL. Jeff was a member of the First Christian Church of Shelbyville, IL. He enjoyed coaching his sons in youth baseball and his daughter in youth softball and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Jeff was a 10-gallon blood donor for the American Red Cross. He married Linda Mae (Morphis) Backs on September 20, 1997.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; sons, Derrick (Whitney) Gordon and Darrin (Bradi) Gordon all of Shelbyville, IL; daughter, Lori (Derek) West of Tower Hill, IL; step-son, Christopher Backs of Nipomo, CA; step-daughter, Crystal (Mike) Foreman of Strasburg, IL; father-in-law, Grover Morphis of Watson, IL; sister-in-law, Donna (Jerry) Roberts of Watson, IL; grandchildren, Reece, Bryce and Zack West and Jackson Gordon; and step-grandchildren, Greyson and Rowyn Foreman, Kennedy Backs and Rory Odu.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and mother-in-law, Thelma Morphis.
