Jerome F Hovey
(January 29, 1971 – January 25, 2009)
Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Shelbyville with Father Don Wolford officiating. Visitation from 10:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Wednesday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to the March of Dimes.
Jerry was born on January 29, 1971 in Watseka, Illinois, the son of Lloyd M. and Maureen O’Brien Hovey. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1989 and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Shelbyville. Jerry was a creative writer who enjoyed sharing his views and truths regarding life. He was well liked and was able to see the good in everyone. From day one, Jerry had many physical obstacles but did his best to overcome and meet the challenges he faced with good humor. His faith and love of family kept him strong. Jerry was an inspiration to those who knew him.
Jerry is survived by his mother, Maureen Hovey of Springfield, IL, brothers and sisters, Lloyd (Susan) Hovey of Springfield, IL, John Hovey of Springfield, IL, Kathy (Dan) Oettel of Weslaco, TX, Eileen (Paul) Mundil of Bellefonte, PA, Pat Hovey of Edwardsville, IL, Kenneth (Tammy) Hovey of Rochester, IL, James (Jamey) Hovey of Edwardsville, IL, Pamela Ekstrom of Augusta, GA; nieces and nephews, Shea Hovey, Sean Hovey, Erin Hovey, Alex Oettel, Morgan Hovey, Connor Hovey, Christopher Hovey, Jordan Hovey and Vanessa Hovey; auntie and uncle, Joan and Ken Rickard of Chicago, IL; and numerous cousins and well as friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd M. Hovey in 1996.
The Hovey family would like to thank all those who befriended Jerry and helped him in his journey. A special thanks to all the staff and residents of Litchfield Terrace who made Jerry feel at home.
