Joan Boley-McCafferty, 72, of Shelbyville, died at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2009 in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday in Tower Hill Free Methodist Church, Tower Hill, Illinois with Rev. Ron Newman and Rev. Robert Barr officiating. Visitation from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Burial will be in Drummonds Cemetery, Toledo, Illinois. Memorials may be given to the Tower Hill Free Methodist Church.

Joan was born on July 14, 1936 in Toledo, Illinois, the daughter of Wesley and Dessie Hon Miller. She and her first husband Lyle owned and operated Boley’s Roller Rink and Boley’s Auction House in Shelbyville for many years. She later was a biscuit maker at Hardee’s in Shelbyville and also sold produce and melons from her home on North 9th and Morgan Street. Joan enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, flower arranging and making crafts. She was a member of the Tower Hill Free Methodist Church, Tower Hill Lioness and Lions Clubs, and was the secretary for the Tower Hill Senior Citizens. She married Lyle Cecil Boley on June 13, 1954. Lyle died on July 3, 1995. She married Robert E. McCafferty, Sr. on June 2, 2001.

Surviving are her husband, Robert; children, Joyce Ann Baldwin and husband Roger of Shelbyville, Mary Ellen Boley of Shelbyville, Kathy Marie Moreland of Decatur, and Ralph Eugene Boley and wife Daphine of Mattoon; step-children, Robert E. McCafferty, Jr. of Nokomis, John J. McCafferty of Shelbyville, Roberta Frye of Cowden and Samantha Hopkins and husband David of Tower Hill; sister, Delores Pugsley of Neoga; five grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; four great grandchildren; seven step-great grandchildren; and special friends, Bonita Miller of Tower Hill and Bob Barr of Assumption.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Lyle; son-in-law, John Moreland; and two sisters, Lelia Vansock and Retha Raymer.
