Joan Gallagher

A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2018 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Joan was born on February 5, 1940 in Shelbyville, IL the daughter of Arthur B. and Blanche A. (Early) Hood. She graduated from Shelbyville High School the Class of 1958. Joan worked for Marge Schoby Insurance Agency and then was a bookkeeper for Shelby County Community Services in Shelbyville, IL, until her retirement. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Cowden, IL. She married Freddie L. Gallagher on December 28, 1958. He died on January 3, 2013.
She is survived by her sons, Steve Gallagher and wife Kendra and Jeff Gallagher and wife Denise all of Mode, IL, brother, Jim Hood and wife Penny of Shelbyville, IL; five grandchildren, Lt. Cody Gallagher and wife Jaclyn, Brock Gallagher, Dustin Gallagher, Haley Gallagher and Daniel Rieman; four great grandchildren, Genevieve Grace Gallagher, Amberlynn and Ariel Siefker, and Ryan Gallagher; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred; and sisters, Lois June Wiley and husband Gene and Norma Jean Frederick and husband Will, “Cap”.
