Joanne was born on February 2, 1932, in Lafayette, IN., the daughter of James & Annette (Heidie) Ricks. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1950. Joanne was a hard-worker and worked several jobs before retiring from Tate & Lyle. She attended Shelby Christian Church and enjoyed participating in church events.
Joanne married Don Shasteen on August 7, 1949. They enjoyed almost 69 years of blissful marriage, until Don’s passing on May 25, 2018.
Joanne enjoyed making crafts, painting, crocheting, and canning. Her ideal day would consist of bargain shopping, eating sweets, and spending time with her family. Joanne was wise and spunky, with a genuine love for people. Family dinners always had “extra” people who she had invited and who she would make feel welcome with her warm smile, gentle laughter, and constant chatter.
Joanne’s family feels blessed to have been loved and cared for by her. Her laughter, tender hugs, phone calls and funny stories will be missed. The family finds peace in knowing that she has been reunited with Don in their eternal home.
She is survived by her daughters, Deborah (Dan) Robbins of Mattoon, IL, and Rebecca (Jim) Wells of Shelbyville, IL; son, Jerry (Debbie) Shasteen of Shelbyville, IL; grandchildren, Scarlet (Troy) Conley, Dusty (Tommy) Sanborn, Bryan (Brooke) Robbins, Quanett (Fred) Goff, Josh (Anntionette) Wells, Brock (Tiffany) Hancock, Matt (Stefanie) Shasteen, and Cody (Bailee) Shasteen; 16 great grandchildren, with 2 more on the way; and two great-great grandchildren.
