Joanne T. Bogart, 90, of Shelbyville, Illinois, passed away at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, November 5, 2020 in Heartland Senior Living, Neoga, IL.

A graveside service for family and friends will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 12, 2020 in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL with Rabbi Alan Cook officiating. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Saving Orphaned Animals Shelby County and mailed to Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, 415 North Broadway, Shelbyville, IL 62565.

Joanne was born on December 29, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Jacob and Rose Esther (Eisenberg) Nitka. She graduated Hyde Park High School and then from nurses training at Mt. Sinai Hospital both in Chicago, IL. Joanne went on to work at the Blood Bank in Chicago, IL. She married Dr. Eli Bogart on December 15, 1949 and she spent most of her career as office manager at her husband’s optometry office in Shelbyville. Joanne was a world traveler, visiting Russia, China, Italy, and England. She was also very involved in the Shelbyville community, where she was active in the Junior Women’s Club (Red Hat Club), Cub Scouts, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, and served as a Shelbyville Tour Guide. Joanne was also an avid bridge player.

Joanne is survived by her children, Belle (Vernon) Plummer of Shelbyville, IL, Theodore (Christine) Bogart of Black Diamond, WA, and Gregory (Brenda) Bogart of Shelbyville, IL; 6 grandchildren, Jacob (Erica McLain) Plummer of San Francisco, CA, Mitchell (Meghan) Bogart of Glen Carbon, IL, Dr. Rebecca (Jason) Kaiser of Glen Allen, VA, Lauren (Mark) Schneider of Black Diamond, WA; Sarah Bogart of Shelbyville, IL, and Jordan (Daurie) Bogart of St. Louis, MO; 3 great grandchildren, Maxwell Kaiser of Glen Allen, VA; and Max & Ella Schneider of Black Diamond, WA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Eli Bogart; parents; and sisters, Sara Jane Longfield and Bernice Simpkins.
