Johanna Elizabeth Spracklen, 90, formerly of Shelbyville, IL, died at 6:00 a.m. Monday, August 3, 2015 in Willowbrook in Effingham, IL.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 6, 2015 in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Shelbyville, IL with Father John Sohm as celebrant. Visitation will be from 6:00-7:45 p.m. Wednesday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with prayer service at 7:45 p.m. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Building Fund, Shelbyville, IL or Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, Donaldson, IN.

Johanna was born on February 18, 1925 in Green Creek, IL, the daughter of Anthony and Anna Aulenbrock Niebrugge. She graduated from Teutopolis High School in the Class of 1943. Johanna then attended St. John’s Nursing School, graduating in 1947 as a registered nurse. She worked as an R. N. at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Effingham, IL until the fire and then at Shelby Memorial Hospital in Shelbyville, IL from 1950-1962. Johanna later worked for the Shelby County Health Department before becoming the Shelby County T.B. Nurse. She was an active parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Shelbyville, IL, where she was a member of the Altar Society. Johanna volunteered with the Shelby County Red Cross. She married Bernard A. Spracklen on October 7, 1950 in St. Mary’s Church in Green Creek, IL. He died on August 26, 2013.

She is survived by her son, Michael A. Spracklen and wife Debra of Shelbyville, IL; daughters, Mary Loy and husband Sam of Bible Grove, IL, Julie Lord and husband Jerry of Decatur, IL, Janet Allen and husband Randy of Shiloh, IL and Martha Dagen and husband David of Nashville, TN; brothers, Anthony Niebrugge and wife Barbara of Effingham, IL and Lawrence Niebrugge of Effingham, IL; sister, Sr. Agatha Niebrugge of Donaldson, IN; 11 grandchildren, Clara Richter, Molly Allen, Emily Miller, Kathy Bollum, Andrew Dagen, Adrienne Dagen, Adam Dagen, Jeff Spracklen, Jacob Spracklen, Andrew Spracklen and Anna Spracklen; and nine great grandchildren, Layla Spracklen, Isabella Spracklen, Anthony Spracklen, Will Spracklen, Adelynn Miller, Hudson Miller, Joanna Spracklen, Sam Richter and Lucas Bollum.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Paul Niebrugge, Alphonse Niebrugge, Ambrose Niebrugge, Fr. Herman Niebrugge, Fr. Richard Niebrugge and Bernard Niebrugge; and sisters, Martha (Niebrugge) Muehlenfeld, Dolores (Niebrugge) Stockman, Mary Anne Niebrugge and Anne Marie Niebrugge.

The family would like to thank the St. Anthony Hospice staff and the entire staff at Willowbrook for the care Johanna and the family received.
