(August 11, 1950 – May 25, 2022)

John James Shasteen , 71, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 8:25 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2022 in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 2, 2022 in Shelby Christian Church with Rev. Mark Sanders and Pastor Don “Satch” Thomas officiating.  Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Thursday in the church.  Military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard will follow the memorial service in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL.  Memorials may be given to the Shelbyville Booster Club, Shelby Christian Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville, IL.

John was born on August 11, 1950 in Decatur, IL, the son of Cecil and Anna Tohill Shasteen.  He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1968.  John was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War.  He was a 47 year member of Roy Vanderpool American Legion Post #81 and attended Shelby Christian Church both in Shelbyville.   John worked as a pipefitter for the Southern Illinois Laborers Union.  He was an avid fan of NASCAR and the Pittsburgh Steelers.  He enjoyed his family and loved spending time with his grandkids and watching them play any sport.  John married Penny D. Tucker on August 21, 1999.

He is survived by his wife, Penny; sons, Travis Shasteen of Cincinnati, OH, Blake Tucker (Nikki) of Shelbyville, IL, Breck Calame (Jess) Cedar Rapids, IA, Nick Shasteen of Shelbyville, IL, and D.J. Holster (Katy) of Midland, TX; grandchildren, Catterina, Tanner, Lauren, Kaytlin, Alissa, Gracee, Caden, Hadleee, and Easton; and great granddaughter, Laiken.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Judith Ann Shasteen; grandparents; and grand pup, Patchey.
