John R. Wafford

John R. Wafford , 87, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 8:54 a.m. Monday, October 24, 2022 in Shelbyville Manor.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 28, 2022 in Glenwood Cemetery, Blyman Addition with Father Pawel Augustyniak officiating. Memorials may be given to Saving Orphaned Animals Shelby County. Arrangements are by Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL.

John was born on February 24, 1935 in Pana, IL, the son of John Marshall and Susan Alberta (McClarey) Wafford. He graduated from Pana High School in the Class of 1953. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. John married Charlotte Ann Gordon on April 13, 1956 in Taylorville, IL. John worked as a gas journeyman for CIPS for 42 years until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of Jackson Masonic Lodge #53 in Shelbyville, and enjoyed wood burning, hunting, and fishing.

John is survived by his wife, Charlotte; daughters, Donna Cavin of Statham, GA, Carrie Jones of Shelbyville, IL, and Gina Banning (Darrell) of Shelbyville, IL; sister, Doris Connors of Enumclaw, WA; six grandchildren, Beau Hodson (Tiffany), Cory Jones (Nichole), Meagan Ibarra (Doni), Cassie Smith, Jaide Helton (Cortland), Paige Tull (Jared); 13 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Sophia and Colin Hodson, Lily, Brynn and Graham Jones, Nikolas and Denzel Ibarra, Rowan Smith, Bella and Ivey Helton, and Parker and Greyson Tull.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gene Wafford; sisters, Audrey Thomson, Helen Westphall, and Charlene Robson.
