John Westlake Moon, 88, of Shelbyville, IL, died at 7:05 a.m. Friday, October 21, 2016 in his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 24, 2016 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Pastor Kevin Vanderlaan and Pastor Gail Allen officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to Shelby County Community Services.

John was born on May 25, 1928 in Dalton City, IL, the son of Carl Raley and Bertha Viola (Smith) Moon. He married Vera Clementina Yost on August 19, 1950 in Bethany, IL. John was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He returned from the service and began working for the F. H. Bland & Sons John Deere Dealership in Bethany, IL, where he became their Service Manager and Parts Manager. He later worked for the Patterson-Tice John Deere Dealership in Shelbyville, IL. John was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian (C.P.) Church in Bethany, IL. He enjoyed being actively involved in his church, collecting miniature John Deere tractors, and gardening. John loved people, especially the children in his neighborhood.

He is survived by his wife, Vera; sons, Johnny A. Moon (Judy) of Hume, IL and Joseph A. Moon (Jill) of Villa Park, IL; daughter, April J. Moon of Shelbyville, IL; brother, Ivan Moon (Sue) of Bethany, IL; sister-in-law, Pauline Oest (Henry) of South Bend, WA; grandchildren, Elizabeth Michels (Matt), Natalie Moon, and Ralie Hargrave (Clint); step-grandchildren, Hilary Edgerly (Jeff), Angie Zindars (Paul), and J. J. Tharp (Lyndsay); great grandchildren, Dakota Hall, Mattie Eaton, Regina Hall, Chloe Michels, Eli Michels, and Cassie Michels; and step-great grandchildren, Brooklyn Tharp, Max Edgerly, Collin Tharp, and Claire Tharp.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Raley Moon and Carl Eugene Moon; and three sisters, Peggy McLain, Mary Kruse, and Irene Moon.
