(March 20, 1916 – January 24, 2011)

Joseph H. Reynolds, Sr., 94, of St Louis, formerly of Decatur and Shelbyville Illinois, passed away at Missouri Baptist Hospital on January 24, 2011 surrounded by loving family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, January 30, 2011 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville with Rev. Lee Lovett officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Sunday. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Joseph was born on March 20, 1916 in Carrollton, Illinois, the second son of Joseph Gordon and Cleo Howe Reynolds. He attended Carrollton schools and graduated from Shelbyville High School and Sparks College. He also attended Bradley University and studied accounting while working as an IRS agent in Peoria, Illinois. He married Lois A. Conrad in 1938 and she preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his loving companion Martha MacLean and brother Howard Reynolds.

Mr. Reynolds was a member of the Greatest Generation, having served in the US Navy during World War II. He was a CPA and employed as an agent and auditor by the IRS for many years before founding his employee benefits and pension business, J. H. Reynolds and Associates, Inc. He relocated his business to St. Louis in 1967 and remained active in its operation until retirement.

“Grandpa Joe” was a great father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to all. He was legendary among those who knew him for his storytelling skills and his inquiring and inventive mind.

Joe is survived by his children Susan E. Reynolds of Chesterfield, Mo, Emily Dobson of Cerro Gordo, IL, and Joseph H. Reynolds, Jr (Susan) of Ballwin, Mo. Also surviving are his brother, Carl D. Reynolds of Pekin, IL and sister Martha Ann Reynolds of Daytona Beach, FL.

Mr. Reynolds is also survived by his 7 grandchildren; Tracy (Mark) Watson of Clayton, MO, Thomas (TJ) Dobson, Jr. (Amy) of Cerro Gordo, IL, Jennifer (Greg) Baird of Chesterfield, MO, Julia (Layne) Hook of Oreana, IL Mary Constance (Benjamin) McNutt of St. Louis MO, Kelly Heet of Wildwood, MO, and Joanna Reynolds of St. Louis, MO.

Joe is also survived by his 12 great grandchildren; Noah and Adam Watson, Cameron and Chelsea Baird, Joey and Grace Heet, Annie and Sean McNutt, Luke and Kyle Dobson and Eli and Madeline Grace Hook. Other survivors are his extended family, the MacLeans.
