Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2015 in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, Illinois with Rev. Lynette DeAtley officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Wednesday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, Illinois. Memorials may be given to Decatur Cares Rescue Mission, 2175 E. Pershing Road, Decatur, IL 62521 or St. Anthony’s Hospice, 701 W. Temple, Effingham, IL 62401.
Joyce was born on March 7, 1942 in Shelbyville, Illinois, the daughter of John Robert and Frances Josephine Barker Shride. She graduated from Cowden High School. Following high school, she answered an ad in the Prairie Farmer magazine and became a nanny in Chicago for a brief time. Joyce married James Richard Forsythe on April 30, 1961. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Joyce enjoyed spending time with her family and working in her flower gardens. She was an avid golfer and was involved with the Ladies Golf League at the Shelby Country Club for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Jim; children, Jake Forsythe and wife Alice of Boise, Idaho, Debbie Graven of Springfield, Illinois, Jack Forsythe and wife Lynette of Coeur D’Alene, Idaho and Josh Forsythe and wife Jamie of Mattoon, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Charlie Forsythe, Katie Forsythe, Bryon Graven and wife Kelsie, Brett Graven, Gaby Forsythe, Lily Forsythe and Natalie Forsythe; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Linda Wiandt and Nancy Cole.
