Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2011 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg with Rev. Kathy Lewis officiating. Visitation from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 1, 2011. Burial will be in Grace Cemetery, Strasburg. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or Lincolnland Hospice.
Mrs. Thomas was born on September 6, 1927 in Stewardson, Illinois, the daughter of Harley John and Ruby Ada Williams Culver. She was a member of Strasburg United Methodist Church and Strasburg American Legion Auxiliary. She married William H. “Bill” Thomas on March 30, 1946 in Stewardson. He died on February 6, 1983.

Surviving are her sons, Terry Thomas and wife Dorothy of Strasburg, Jerry Thomas of Windsor, John Thomas of Mattoon, Don Thomas and wife Marlys of Cowden, Ron Thomas and wife Fawn of Strasburg and Roger Thomas and wife Barbara of Strasburg; daughters, Barbara Thomas of Springfield, Beverly Newcomb and husband Darrell of Charleston and Becky Sappenfield and husband Ralph of Newton; 27 grandchildren; and 35 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; sons, Jim and Randy Thomas and infant son, Larry Joe Thomas; brothers, Donald Culver, Dean Culver, Bill Smith and Jim Stine; sisters, Rosemary Evans and Joyce Rueter; and grandsons, Sean Sappenfield and Troy Newcomb.
