Kathryn Ann “Kay” Brooks, 70, of Shelbyville, IL, died at 10:55 a.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2015 in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2015 in the First Presbyterian Church of Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Sam Foskey officiating and Sam Brooks delivering the eulogy. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville, IL. Burial will be later in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church of Shelbyville or the Shelby Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Kay was born on February 19, 1944 in Shelbyville, IL, the daughter of Merle D. and Frances Loraine Runkel Stewardson. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1962 and St. Mary’s School of Nursing, Decatur, IL in 1967. Kay was an LPN at Shelby Memorial Hospital for over 40 years. She loved her career, her co-workers and her patients. Kay was the recipient of the SMH Employee of the Year award. She later served for two years as the Administrator of The Shelby Manor, later known as Olivewood and Shelbyville Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. She was a Past Deacon and lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Shelbyville. Kay believed in God with all of her heart and always strove to be a good person. Her family was her life and she was so proud of them all. Her hobbies were centered on her family. She married Paul B. Brooks on August 3, 1962.

She is survived by her husband, Paul; daughter, Tami Bosgraaf and husband Rob of Shelbyville, IL; son, Sam Brooks and wife Sherrie of Monmouth, IL; sister, Carole Jehling and husband Don of Corte Madera, CA; and grandchildren, Drew Bosgraaf and Maggie Bosgraaf both of Shelbyville, IL and Jake Brooks and Grace Brooks both of Monmouth, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Norma Waggoner Stewardson.
