Kenneth F. Woods

On Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 4:05 p.m., Kenneth Floyd Woods, our longtime hero and greatest friend passed from our sight to his heavenly home while surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 2, 2023 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with his son, Kevin Woods officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Casual attire is requested. Burial will be in Jordan Cemetery, near Shelbyville, with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shelby County Honor Guard.
Kenneth was born on December 8, 1936 to Ralph and Maude (Williams) Woods in Dugout. He spent his early life working on the family farm, and then served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1959. He married Veda J. Miller on June 11, 1960, with whom he shared 62 years and six children.
On September 10, 1978, he dedicated his life to Jesus Christ. He served the Lord for the remainder of his life as a student of the Word and then as a pastor and teacher to many.
Kenneth was a Union Iron Worker for 28 years, most of that time working for Fuller Brothers Construction in Hillsboro, IL. He was connected to agriculture throughout his life by farming, raising livestock, baling hay, or helping with the harvest. He was an avid gardener with two green thumbs, liked to fish, and loved to hunt and eat mushrooms.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Veda; daughters, Robin Munson (Bob) of Mt. Zion and Tina Scott (Ray) of St. Elmo; sons, Kirk Woods (Debra) of Pana, Kevin Woods (Coral) of Tower Hill, Grant Woods (Patti) of Yantisville, and Wayne Woods (Maranda) of Martinsville; brother, Dean Woods of Shelbyville; sisters, Dorothy Bly and Margaret Long both of Shelbyville; sisters-in-law, Judy Pollard of Shelbyville and Janean Stretch of Hillsboro; brother-in-law, Roger Miller (Cathy) of Shelbyville; 24 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Grant and Cora Woods; parents, Ralph and Maude Woods; step-mother, Velma Banasiewicz; brothers, Dale, Leonard Duane, and Gene Woods; sister, Barbara Phelps; brothers-in-law, Gene Phelps, Ron Pollard and Dale Stretch; sisters-in-law, Alfredia Woods, Eileen Woods and Rita Rose Hubbartt; nephew, Rodney Stephens; great grandchildren, Clayven Rayne Meachum and Addison Blaize Scott.; and great great grandson, Braeson Alexander Gene Horton.
