Kenneth O Friese
(June 23, 1932 – May 21, 2013)
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2013 in Trinity Lutheran Church in Stewardson, IL with Rev. Richard Bremer officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg, IL and one hour before service time Saturday in the church. Military rites, by the Wilbur Braughton American Legion Post #611, will be held immediately following the funeral at the Stewardson Veterans Memorial. Burial will be at a later date in Stewardson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church, Stewardson, IL, Stewardson Veterans Memorial or Stewardson Cemetery.
Mr. Friese was born on June 23, 1932 at home in rural Stewardson, IL, the son of Irvin and Ruby Beals Friese. Kenny graduated in 1950, the last graduating class of Stewardson High School. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U. S. Navy. He retired from the U.S.P.S. as a rural mail carrier, where he faithfully served his customers for 27 years from 1967 – 1994. He married Sandra R. Thomas on March 1, 1962. Kenny was a member and past commander of the Wilbur Braughton American Legion Post #611 of Stewardson, where he served for several years as commander of the firing squad. He was also a member of V.F.W. Post #1769 of Effingham, Stewardson Veterans Memorial Committee, National Rural Letter Carrier Association and Trinity Lutheran Church, Stewardson, IL. Kenny enjoyed gardening, watching Mid-American Gardener and bird watching. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, watching sports and solving Jumbles puzzles in the daily newspaper. In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling, golfing and playing softball.
He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra; daughter, Dorene R. Sparks of St. Louis, MO; son, Scott L. Friese of Stewardson, IL; brother, Donald Friese and wife Lela of Stewardson, IL; sister-in-law, Brenda Thomas Goett of Springfield, IL; brother-in-law, Lee Thomas and wife Joan of Springfield, TN; and five grandchildren, Kelley Sparks of St. Louis, MO, Brittaney Friese of Orlando, FL, Macy Friese of Stewardson, IL and Erin and Thomas Friese both of Effingham, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Eugene and Dwight Friese.
