Lafe Joseph Stewart, 86, of Decatur, formerly of Shelbyville, IL, died at 10:16 a.m. Friday, September 11, 2015 in Fair Haven Christian Home, Decatur, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2015 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Bishop Steve Ulrich and Rev. Lonnie Stewart officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Mt. Hermon Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL with Bishop Christy Christner officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Howe and Yockey Funeral Home for the family for expenses.

Lafe was born on May 22, 1929 in Harrisburg, OR, the son of Oscar and Viola Hostetler Stewart. He was a retired laborer and a member of Mt. Herman Amish Mennonite Church in Shelbyville. He married Ruth May Eigsti on May 2, 1952.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; sons, Lonnie Stewart (Theresa) of Mattoon, IL, Kendall Stewart (Amy) of Matthews, NC and Chris Stewart of Shelbyville, IL; daughters, Joya D. Ryan (Jeff) of Decatur, IL and Sandra Otto (Dave) of Middlebury, IN; brother, Danny Stewart (Lana) of Albany, OR; sisters, Ruth Kropf (Lloyd) of Albany, OR and Mildred Kropf (Herman) of Harrisburg, OR; sisters-in-law, Lela Stewart of Roanoke, IL and Bobetta Stewart of The Dalles, OR; seven grandchildren, Carrie Ryan (Leigh), Stewart Otto (Jasmine), Jessica Otto, Landon Stewart, Cameron Stewart, Morgan Stewart and Nathan Stewart; and great grandchildren, Jade Ryan, Adleigh Ryan and Cohen Otto.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Elwyn Stewart and Melvin Stewart; and sister, Pauline Scheffel (Harry).

The family would like to thank Dr. Costerisan, Evergreen Senior Living, Fair Haven Christian Home and Safe Haven Hospice for their care.
