Larry Dean Johnson, 55, of Shelbyville, IL, died at 8:20 a.m. Monday, February 13, 2017 in his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 18, 2017 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Pastor Kyle Blackerby officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the Make–A-Wish Foundation or Catch the Fire Church in Cowden, IL. Family and friends are encouraged to ride their motorcycles in the procession to the cemetery.

Larry was born on July 14, 1961 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of James Robert “Johnny” and Judith Evelyn Kessel Johnson. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1979 and attended Kilgore College in Kilgore, TX. Larry was a truck driver for 25 years. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, being a part of a motorcycle racing team, traveling, playing cards and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Larry was a member of Catch the Fire Church in Cowden, IL. He married Denise D. West on February 19, 1982 in Cowden, IL.

He is survived by his wife, Denise; daughters, Megan Hewing (Jalalamar “Francois”) of Louisville, KY and Ashley Johnson of Shelbyville, IL; mother, Judy Johnson of Shelbyville, IL; step-mother, Decka Johnson of Shelbyville, IL; mother-in-law, LaVonne West of Decatur, IL; brothers, John Johnson (Randall) of Memphis, TN and Cary Johnson (Maggie) of California; sister, Jamie Williams (Todd) of Mt. Zion, IL; step-brothers, Bryan Smith (Gosia) of Wichita, KS and Bradley Smith (Narumi) of Houston, TX; and grandchildren, Nivea, Kendrick-Eugene and Phoenix Hewing and Chloe Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Johnson; father-in-law, Kenneth West; maternal grandparents, Burl and Marjorie Kessel; and paternal grandparents, Noble and Lucile Johnson.
