Lawrence Eldon “Larry” Stevens, 79, of Cowden, died at 6:31 a.m. Monday, December 13, 2010 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 16, 2010 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Lynette DeAtley officiating. Visitation from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday with Masonic rites at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Stevens was born on June 27, 1931 in Findlay, Illinois, the son of Paul and Daisy I. Shaw Stevens. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force, serving in the Korean Conflict. Larry owned and operated a trucking business from 1977-1991 and later worked for Crest Container Corporation and Continental Can Corporation in Shelbyville. He was a member of Cornerstone Community Fellowship in Shelbyville, 40 year member of Jackson Lodge #53 AF & AM of Shelbyville, Scottish Rite Valley of Springfield and was an Honorary Kentucky Colonel. Larry was a ham radio operator for 55 years. He married Roberta May Portwood on September 23, 1951. She died June 15, 1997. He later married LeaAnn Welton on April 16, 1999.

Surviving are his sons, Paul Eldon Stevens and Ralph Darin Stevens both of Cowden; daughters, Beverly Hopkins and husband Fred of Seneca, MO, Marla Powers and husband Don of Shelbyville, Joyce Pendlay of Heartville and Roberta Lee Stevens and significant other Kelly Fuller of Cowden; mother, Daisy I. Stevens of Shelbyville; brother, Gayle W. Stevens of Shelbyville; sister, Marcella Wirey and husband Eugene of Findlay; fifteen grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father; wife, Roberta; daughters, Shirley Arkebauer, Sherrie Collins and Pamela Brown; brother, Paul Kendall Stevens; and granddaughter, Kristal Dawn Brown.
