Lawrence D. Stremming, 78, of Strasburg, Illinois, died at 5:10 a.m. Sunday, December 29, 2013 in the Odd Fellow Rebekah Home in Mattoon, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 2, 2014 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg, IL with Rev. Steven Becker and Rev. Gary Fortkamp officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday and one hour before services Thursday both in the church. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg, IL. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Strasburg, IL with military rites by Strasburg American Legion Post #289. Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg, Odd Fellow Rebekah Home, Mattoon or Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, St. Louis, MO.

Mr. Stremming was born on December 13, 1935 in Strasburg, IL, the son of Wilber Emil and Bertha Edna Vogel Stremming. He graduated from Stewardson-Strasburg High School in the Class of 1953. Lawrence was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, serving as a radar operator. He worked for Anamet in Mattoon for 36 years and also farmed in the Strasburg area. Lawrence was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Strasburg, where he held many church offices. He was also a member of Strasburg American Legion Post #289. Lawrence married Shirley Jane Johnson on November 1, 1959.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; son, David Stremming and wife Debbie of Strasburg, IL; daughter, Lisa Rincker and husband Otto of Strasburg, IL; grandchildren, Andy Rincker, Luke Rincker and Morgan Stremming all of Strasburg, IL and BreeAnn Stremming of Mattoon, IL: brother, Delbert Stremming and wife Doris of Strasburg, IL; sister-in-law, Louise Stremming of Las Vegas, NV; brothers-in-law, Jim Johnson and wife Edna of Strafford, MO and Kenneth Johnson and wife Helen of Mattoon, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Jim Stremming.
