Leroy D Wheat
(June 28, 1941 – December 18, 2014)
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2014 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Pastor Linda Trent officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Mode, IL. Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, TN.
Leroy was born on June 28, 1941 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Walter Stanley and Ruby Grace Killam Wheat. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1960. Leroy was an Operating Engineer with Local #965 of Springfield, IL until his retirement. He was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Jackson Masonic Lodge #53, National Rifle Association, Illinois State Rifle Association, Windsor Gun Club and a lifetime member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #965 of Springfield, IL and the North American Hunting Club. Leroy enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing, hunting, raising hunting dogs and listening to Bluegrass music. He married Euna Lee Snyder on September 22, 1963.
He is survived by his wife, Euna; sons, Terry L. Wheat (Nancy) of Shelbyville, IL and Troy L. Wheat (Violet) of Rantoul, IL; brothers, Larry L. Wheat (Janet) of Marietta, GA and S. Lewis Wheat (Dorothy) of Spring Hill, KS; and grandchildren, Travis, Adrienne, Tyler, Andrew, and Zachariah Wheat.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Nancy M. Hostetler.
