Leta E Yantis
(November 14, 1918 – January 29, 2009)
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2009 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. E. Wade Helmkamp officiating. Visitation from 1:00-2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to American Heart Association.
Leta was born on November 14, 1918 in Shelby County (Clarksburg Twp.), IL, the daughter of John Calvin and Otie Severe Howe.
She worked at the Shelbyville Garment Factory from 1938 until 1957, when the factory closed. Leta and her twin sister, Fleta, started work there together.
Leta was a devoted housewife and mother to her children. She will be greatly missed.
She married Gayle Yantis in Troy, Missouri on August 20, 1940.
Surviving are her husband, Gayle; son, Michael Yantis of Shelbyville, IL; sisters, Fleta Griffin (twin sister) of Decatur, IL, Bertha Roy of Decatur, IL and Rella Salmons of Brownstown, IL; son-in-law, Jerry Young of Rankin, IL; grandchildren, Tony Young and wife Cathy of Olney, IL and Shawn Young of Paxton, IL; five great grandchildren; and one step-great grandchild.
Leta was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Madonna Young; granddaughter, Miki Young; brother, Carl Howe; sisters, Edith Howe, Doris Helton and Vera Pease; and nephews and nieces.
The family would like to express appreciation to many caregivers who tended to Leta�s needs during her short illness. Special thanks to Dr. Siroy for his services and kindness.
