Mr. Early was born on November 29, 1909 near Middlesworth, Illinois, the son of Charles Francis and Bertha Helton Early. He served in the U. S. Navy during WW II. He was employed at Staley’s in Decatur, retiring after over 50 years of service. Leverett has resided at the Shelbyville Manor for the past 10 years. He made many friends there and had a special roommate John Moore, since 1996. The staff there gave him excellent care and treated him as family. He married Frances Viola Cowgill on Aug. 15, 1928. She died on April 23, 1982. He married Maudie Marie Ratts Garrett on October 13, 1984. He was a step-father to Marie’s grown children and grandfather to their children. Marie died on December 17, 1996.

Surviving are his step-sons, Donald E., Riley, Harry L. and Wilbur L. Garrett; nieces, June Wiley of Mt. Zion, Joan Gallagher and husband Fred of Mode; nephews, Rodney Washburn of Mt. Zion and Jim Hood and wife Penny of Shelbyville; and many great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wives; sisters, Blanche Hood, Agnes Washburn and one in infancy; and niece, Norma Jean Frederick.

Mr. Early was a very devoted uncle. He spent countless hours camping, hunting and fishing. Never having children of his own, he was more than a father and grandfather to all of his many nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by all, but leaves us with wonderful memories.
