Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Wayland Middendorf officiating. Visitation from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Shelbyville or Lincolnland Hospice.
Mr. Smith was born on June 7, 1936 in Humboldt Twp., Coles County, near Dorans, Illinois, the son of Stanley Elbert and Edith Marie Huff Smith. He graduated from Mattoon High School in the Class of 1954. He was a truck driver for Yellow Freight in Mattoon and Decatur, before his retirement. He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and Moose Lodge # 1294 both of Shelbyville and Teamsters Union Local #279. He married Shirley Ellen Holley on February 9, 1957. She passed away on July 18, 2004.
Surviving are his daughters, Suellen Storm and husband Rich and Karyn A. Weakly and husband Brad all of Shelbyville; sister, Judy Keplar and husband Lee of Mattoon; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clarence and Ola Holley of Shelbyville; and five grandchildren, Erin Hein and husband Ben of Findlay, Jason Storm, Trevor Storm, TerraAnn Downs and husband Tim and Natalie Storm all of Shelbyville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley; and granddaughter, Laura Storm.
