Lora B Barker
(February 24, 1908 – January 24, 2008)
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 26, 2008 in Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. Visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church or the Social Activity Department of the Extended Care Unit at Shelby Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Barker was born in Shelby County, near Shelbyville, Illinois, on February 24, 1908, the eldest child of Samuel C. and Lora Pearl Douthit Strohl. She was a charter member of the Shelby County Home Extension Unit and was active for many years, as well as helping in the kitchen of the United Methodist Church and serving as an election judge for many years. Lora was always helpful to her family and was very involved in their lives. She always had special family dinners and expected the whole family to attend. She spent her life on the farm and enjoyed working in her garden and flower beds. Lora married Herbert Edgar Barker on December 22, 1926 in Vandalia, Illinois at the Methodist Parsonage. He died on March 8, 1972.
Surviving are her sons, Gayle Barker and wife Doris of Shelbyville and Richard Barker and wife Barbara of Champaign; son-in-law, Loren Wortman of Mascoutah; brother, Arnold Strohl and wife Janet of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Jean Marie Wichman, Teresa Maxwell, Jeffrey Barker, Christopher Wortman, Julie Wortman, Amy Walmer and Brad Barker; and seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Lora Phyllis Wortman; and sister, Lucille Smith.
