Loren Wortman
(October 24, 1938 – December 22, 2016)
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2016 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Father Marianna Sathuluri officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Wortman was born on October 24, 1938 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Hugh Michael and Clara Ruch Wortman. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1958. Larry entered the U. S. Air Force following high school and retired in 1987 as a Senior Master Sergeant at Scott Air Force Base in Belleville, IL. He was a Supply Management Superintendent at the time of his retirement and was hired back as a civil servant for an additional 12 years. Larry was a member of the Friends of the Smithsonian Institution, a loyal supporter of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and an avid gardener. He married Lora Phyllis Barker on June 5, 1966. She died on October 18, 1984.
He is survived by his son, Christopher Wortman and his longtime girlfriend, Amy Grimason of Ypsilanti, MI; daughter, Julie Wortman of Mascoutah, IL; brother, Richard Wortman of Shelbyville, IL; sister, Mary Haworth of Shelbyville, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Norman Wortman; and sisters, Susan Bleyer and Nancy Mowry.
