Lou Sohaney

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 13, 2018 in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Marianna Sathuluri as Celebrant. Visitation from 5:30-7:00 p.m. Thursday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL and also from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Friday in the church. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given in Lou’s name to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Lou was born on August 8, 1926 in Williamson, West Virginia to Gus and Anna (Szakacs) Sohaney. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served with the 81st Infantry Division in the Pacific Theatre and Occupation of Japan.
A graduate of West Virginia University, Lou was retired from the Illinois Department of Conservation. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church both of Shelbyville, IL.
Lou was united in marriage to Emalea Ann Osterhage on November 24, 1962 at St. Elizabeth Church in Robinson, IL.
Lou is survived by his wife, Emalea; sister, Catherine Davis of Englewood, OH; sister-in-law, Janet Theriac of Indianapolis, IN; brother-in-law, Matthew Theriac (Karla) of Macon, MO; and several nieces and nephews.
Lou was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Frances Louise Sohaney, Rita Regina Sohaney, Patricia Ann Jessie, and Margaret Jean Crider; and daughter, Anna Marie Sohaney.
