Lowell Sorrell

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2017 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Mark Sanders officiating. Visitation will be from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Findlay Cemetery, Findlay, IL. Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, TN.
Lowell was born on October 27, 1934 in Macon, IL, the son of William Lowell and Josephine Helen Frye Sorrell. He began working for Wagner Casting in Decatur, IL at the age of 19 and retired 32 years later as their Superintendent of the Ductile Foundry. In his retirement, he and his wife Pat owned and operated the Eagle Creek Bait Shop, near Findlay, IL. Lowell was a member of the Illinois Old Time Fiddler’s Association. He enjoyed refurbishing violins, camping, bass fishing, restoring his Model T truck and racing stock cars at Macon Speedway in his younger days. He married Patricia Irene Adams on September 4, 1954.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; children, Jeanne Ballance (Mike) of Shelbyville, IL, William Daniel Sorrell (Cyndi) of Corona, CA and Patricia Diane Sorrell; brother, Clifford Sorrell (Linda) of Mt. Zion, IL; sisters, Eda Jostes (Boyd) of Macon, IL and Betty Myers (Harry) of Sullivan, IL; six grandchildren, Patricia Behl (Ryan), Elizabeth Anderson (Delbert), Shelby Oakley Dalton Hutchcraft, Nicole Sorrell and Daniel Sorrell; grandson-in-law, Matt Lynch; four great grandchildren, Brenna Lynch, Ashlyn Behl, Ava Behl and Audrey Anderson; and one great great granddaughter, Aria Lynch.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Douglas Sorrell; sister, Mary Crum (Russell); and granddaughter, Heather Lynch.
