Freeman Ludwell “Lud” Storm, 83, of Shelbyville, died at 4:37 a.m. Saturday, December 12, 2009 in Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2009 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Lee Lovett officiating. Visitation from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church, Alzheimer’s Association or Shelby Humane Society.

Mr. Storm was born on August 28, 1926 in rural Gays, Illinois, the son of Wilbur O. and Mary E. Ross Storm. He graduated from Windsor High School and earned a Bachelors Degree in Education from Eastern Illinois University. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II in the Pacific Theatre. He was a design engineer for agricultural equipment, primarily drying and harvesting. He worked for the Oliver Corporation in Shelbyville and Baughman-Oster and Specialized Products both in Taylorville, IL. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville and Mattoon Masonic Lodge #260 A.F. & A.M. where he was a Master Mason. Lud was a skilled woodworker. He married Dolores J. Shirley on August 28, 1949.

Surviving are his wife, Dolores; daughters, Gretchen Geer and husband David of Shelbyville, Rhonda Storm (Shikanai) of Evanston and Elaine McBride and husband Tom of Bridgewater, MA; son, Kevin Storm of Shelbyville; sister, Phyllis Barnes of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Michelle, Maleah and Brandon Geer, Molly, Nolan and Avery Shikanai and Joseph and Mary McBride; and great grandchildren, Kaylee, David and Alana Geer, Kylie Gordon and Emmerson Heavey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Harry McCord; and brother-in-law, LeRoy Barnes.
