Luther Paul Johnson , 86, passed away at 7:30 PM on Monday, April 4, 2022 at the Shelbyville Rehabilitation Center in Shelbyville, Illinois.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 11, 2022 in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL with Pastor John Curtis officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Shelby County Honor Guard.  Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Monday at Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Casual attire is requested.  Memorials may be given to the American Lung Association.

Paul was born on February 11, 1936 in Richland Township, IL, to Casper and Mildred (Boyd) Johnson. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1953. Shortly thereafter he joined the United States Army, serving from November 1958 to November 1960. He was a machinist at the Oliver Corporation in Shelbyville and retired from Essex in Pana. He married Linda Broyles on February 9, 1962, together raising six children; Jeff, Brad, Tim, Tom, Julie, and Greg.  Paul and Linda enjoyed refinishing antique furniture and selling it at their shop, Upfront Antiques, in Arcola, IL.

He is survived by his children, Jeff Smith of Indianapolis, IN, Brad Smith of New Waverly Texas, Tim Smith (Mary) of Moweaqua, IL, Tom Smith of Kirbyville, TX, Julie Boehm (Keith) of Shelbyville, IL, Greg Johnson (Melony)  of Shelbyville, IL, and William Kroncke (Nichole) of Shelbyville, IL; sisters, Lois Rexroad of Beecher City, IL, Carol Durram (Happy) of Owensboro, KY, Jean Lape of Shelbyville, IL, Mary Parr of Shelbyville, IL, and Ima Jo Bruce (Don) of Decatur, IL; 23 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Linda; three brothers-in-law, Gene Rexroad, Gene Parr, and Bob Lape; and one brother, Kenneth Johnson in infancy.
