Lyle E. Swiney, 82, of Lakewood, IL, passed away at 2:20 a.m. October 25, 2020 in Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL.

A graveside service for family and friends will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 9, 2020 at St. Marys Cemetery, Assumption, IL. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church Food Pantry or Shelby County Senior Center and mailed to Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, 415 N. Broadway, Shelbyville, IL 62565.

Lyle was born on October 16, 1938, in rural Taylorville, IL, the son of Loyd James and Marjorie Rochelle (Smith) Swiney. He graduated from Taylorville High School in the Class of 1956. Lyle was a grain elevator manager for Moultrie-Shelby FS for 14 years and then was a petroleum driver and grain elevator manager for Madison County FS for 20 years, retiring in 2002 after 34 years. He married Margaret Virginia Burchett on August 29, 1959 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Assumption, IL. Lyle was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Shelbyville and the Shelby County Farm Bureau.

Lyle is survived by his wife, Virginia; children, Bruce (Lisa) Swiney of
Waterloo, IA, Jim (Karen) Swiney of Collinsville, IL, Kathy (Todd) Daniel of Troy, IL, Christy (Tony) Treadway of New Harmony, IN, Mike (Julie) Swiney of Maryville, IL, and Kim (Wayne) Hanvey of Troy, IL; sister, Joyce Hunsley of Maryville, TN; brother, Larry (Pam) Swiney of Jackson, TN; 9 grandchildren, Jon Daniel, Katelyn Keown, Jessica (Caleb) Bray, Jacob (Maggie) Keown, Kimberly Becker, Makayla Fleming, Zoe Hanvey, Ariana Hanvey, and Christopher Swiney; and 3 great grandchildren, Caden, Mallory and Connor Bray.

He was preceded in death by his parents: brother-in-law, Jim Hunsley; and several cousins.
