Margaret Ann Hammond, 69, of Shelbyville, IL, died at 7:00 a.m. Sunday, February 7, 2016 in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 11, 2016 in Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. E. Wade Helmkamp officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00- 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 10, 2016 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Casual attire is requested. Burial will be in Jordan Cemetery, near Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Shelbyville, IL or the Down Syndrome Association of Greater St. Louis.

Margaret was born September 16, 1946 in Shelbyville, IL, the daughter of Maurice Gilbert and Alice Edith Mahnke Elliott. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in the class of 1964. Margaret worked for Sta-Rite Ginnie Lou, Guy’s, and Just Like Grandma’s all in Shelbyville. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Shelbyville, IL. She enjoyed playing bunco and bowling. Margaret was a part of local bowling teams that made numerous trips to state competitions. She was proud to be an election judge for Precinct 5 in Shelbyville and was a member of the Flappers. Margaret thoroughly enjoyed attending all of her grandchildren’s activities and sporting events. She loved spending time on the family farm. She married L. Keith Hammond on March 13, 1964.

She is survived by her husband, Keith; son, Tony Hammond of Shelbyville, IL; daughter, Heather Smithson and husband Rob of Shelbyville, IL; grandchildren, Jordan, Elliott, and Isaac Smithson and Brock, Roxanne and Blake Hammond all of Shelbyville, IL; brother, Richard Elliott and wife Ione of Shelbyville, IL; nephews, Chris Elliott and wife Amanda of Shelbyville, IL and Larry Elliott of St. Louis, MO; mother-in-law, Lyndall Hammond of Alabama; brother-in-law, Marion Hammond and wife Peggy of Alabama; and several nieces and cousins.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law, Leonard Hammond; and infant twin grandsons, Mitchell and Matthew Hammond.
