Marilou J. Shuff

(January 28, 1927 – May 5, 2022)

Marilou Jacqueline”Jackie” Shuff , 95, of Shelbyville, IL, was graciously received into her heavenly home Thursday, May 5 th , 2022, while receiving care at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL. She had been a resident of Shelbyville Manor after residing at 1994 E. IL 16, Shelbyville, IL for many years.

Marilou was born on Jan. 28 th , 1927 in Strasburg, IL to Paul and Lucile (Henderson) Christman. She later attended school in Shelbyville, was Homecoming Queen, and fell in love with Arthur L. Shuff of Shelbyville. After attending Millikin University in Decatur, IL as a music major, she and Art were married in Shelbyville, IL on Feb. 28 th , 1947. Together they lived first in Mattoon, IL, where their four sons were born. Then, in the early 60’s they moved to rural Lawrenceville, IL where the boys were raised. Although beginning as a school teacher in Shelby Co. and then holding kindergarten classes in her home in Mattoon, she worked alongside Art in his grocery business with Red & White, managing a deli in Lawrenceville and later her own restaurant at the Lawrenceville-Vincennes Airport. She enjoyed serving others. Her last employment was as a front desk clerk for the Holiday Inn of Vincennes, IN.

She enjoyed flower gardening, her music (singing at multiple weddings, funerals, and some social functions), home decorating, the outdoors, bird watching, and all animals, but especially her dogs, cats, and horses. In her busy life and commitments, she kept plenty of room for family, taking all four boys on multiple, rustic, camping trips to Turkey Run, IN and the Smokey Mountains. Family was her greatest joy.

She attended the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for many years and in her latter years was a member of Cornerstone Church in rural Shelbyville, IL

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arthur, and two half-sisters Hilda and Maurine. Surviving are her sister Donna LaMasters of Hartford, KY; her four sons: J Anthony (Pamela) Shuff of Broadwell, IL, Jerrold A. Shuff of Wakanda, SD, Brian J. (Therese Shuff/Rooney) Shuff of Indianapolis, IN, and Aaron (Anne) Shuff of West Branch, MI., as well as eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and multiple, precious nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Arrangements have been made with Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, 415 N. Broadway, Shelbyville, IL. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. this Sunday, May 8 th , on Mother’s Day, at the funeral home. A Memorial Service will be held there on Monday, May, 9 th , 2022 at 11 a.m. for family and friends with Rev. John Curtis and Tony Shuff officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Instead of flowers, memorials can be made to Saving Orphaned Animals, Shelby County.
