Marshall Dane Lawrence Thomas passed away at 11:27 a.m. Sunday, September 22, 2024, in Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago while in his mother’s loving arms.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 30, 2024, in Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Monday in the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Ronald McDonald House Charities. Arrangements are by Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL.

Marshall was born on June 4, 2024, in Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Care Center, Mattoon, IL, the son of Adam Thomas and Shelby Fleming. Marshall enjoyed looking at his galaxy lights, listening to stories such as Going on a Bear Hunt , The Napping House , Goodnight Moon , and his mother’s favorite to read to him, Oh, the Places You’ll Go by Dr. Seuss. He had great visits with Liam and Dad. His face would light up when Dad played with him. He loved leg and arm massages, listening to music, and movies with Mom. His favorite place to be was asleep in the recliner with Mom. Marshall’s nurses would call him by his nicknames “Marshy” and “Marshmallow.” He contributed a lot of research and knowledge to the medical field and was a tissue donor, donating his eyes and legs so that he may walk and see for other children in need.

Marshall is survived by his parents, Adam and Shelby; brothers, Liam and Dante Thomas of Shelbyville; maternal grandmother, Tabetha Fleming of Shelbyville; maternal grandfather, Paul Fleming, Jr. of Shelbyville; paternal grandfather, Robert Thomas of Shelbyville; uncle, Levi Fleming (Allie) of Shelbyville; and cousins, Charlie, Caroline, and Wesley Fleming of Shelbyville; uncle, John Thomas of Shelbyville; and cousin Bre of Shelbyville; aunt, Abi Holden (Raymond) of Carol Stream, IL; and cousin Rayme of Carol Stream, IL;  Sara Fitzgerald (Andy) of Shelbyville; and cousins Jacob Martin and Katherine Martin of Shelbyville; aunt, Alisha Hufford of Virginia Beach, VA; aunt Lacey Franklin (Shawn) of Taylorville, IL; and aunt Bridget Dunn (Marcus) of Shelbyville.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Catherine (Sullivan) Thomas; and maternal aunt, Shelly Snow.
